Fannie Taylor papers, 1941-2007.

Papers of a Wisconsin educator and art administrator who was also prominently associated with the National Endowment for the Arts during the late 1960s and 1970s. Included are minutes, correspondence, and publications of the Wisconsin Arts Board and its predecessor organizations, the Wisconsin Arts Foundation and Council and the Governor's Council on the Arts; reports concerning work as director of the Wisconsin Memorial Union Theater; planning materials and recorded remarks of Nancy Hanks, Richard Schickel, Twyla Tharp, and others at the 1980 University Forum; and minutes, internal administrative records, publications, and correspondence of the Association of College and University Concert Managers of which Taylor was a founding member. Records concerning the NEA include a draft history by Rodney Campbell, Taylor's own published history of the Endowment's first decade, her transcribed interviews with agency leaders such as Hanks, Livingston Biddle, Jr., and Roger L. Stevens, and other historical research files; minutes, reports, and other records of the NEA's music program and its advisory panel; and reports, memoranda, and numerous publications pertaining to work as director of program information.

The Arts Board was created as a statutory agency by Chapter 90, Laws of 1973, and was subsequently attached to the Department of Administration (WIHV85-A694) by Chapter 333, Laws of 1973. 1995 Wisconsin Act 27 attached the Board to the Dept. of Tourism (WIHV90-A1094).
